Aims and Scope
FILR publishes research that advances scholarly understanding of Islamic law in both classical and contemporary contexts. While maintaining a global perspective, the journal particularly welcomes contributions addressing Islamic law in Southeast Asia, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, Singapore, Thailand, and the Philippines. The journal encourages interdisciplinary approaches that engage with legal theory, social science, comparative law, and religious studies.
Thematic coverage
FILR covers a broad range of topics, including but not limited to:
- Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh) and usul al-fiqh, including contemporary ijtihad and fatwa studies
- Sharia economic law, including ZISWAF (Zakat, Infaq, Sadaqah, Waqf), Islamic banking, and halal industry regulation
- Islamic family law, inheritance, and religious court jurisprudence
- Legal pluralism, customary law (adat), and state-religion relations
- Islamic constitutionalism, human rights, and minority rights discourse
- Digitalization of Islamic law, fintech sharia, and e-commerce in Islamic legal frameworks
- Comparative Islamic law across different madhabs and legal traditions
- Historical and classical Islamic legal thought and its contemporary relevance
Article types accepted
FILR considers the following manuscript types:
- Research articles (empirical or doctrinal) — primary article type
- Review articles and systematic literature reviews
- Case notes and critical analyses of significant judicial decisions
- Critical commentaries on legislation, fatwa, or regulatory developments
- Book reviews — accepted on a limited basis by editorial invitation
